I recently participated in the Global Game Jam 2023, a truly unforgettable experience. As a programmer, I was excited to be part of a team creating a game from scratch in just 48 hours.

For those unfamiliar, Global Game Jam is an annual event where game developers from around the world come together to create games in a limited time frame. This year, the theme was “Roots.”

This was my first time participating in an in-person game jam, and I was amazed at the energy and creativity in the room. Our team consisted of two programmers, including me, a veteran game jam generalist, and a fantastic sound designer working together towards a common goal.

We used Unity as our game engine, and I was responsible for the significant programming aspects of our game. Despite the time constraints, we produced a polished and entertaining game that we are all proud of.

I am happy to announce that our game is now available on itch.io for anyone to play. Be sure to check it out. If you have the opportunity, I highly recommend participating in a game jam, whether Global Game Jam or any other local event. It’s an excellent opportunity to meet other developers, work on your skills, and create something unique and fun.
